History: Hoshimaru is the only son of Yajin Kazuki, a retired ninja who was revered for his mastery of the Light element as well as its components: Lightning and Wind. When Kazuki was too old to keep going on dangerous missions, found an opportunity to stay close to the ninja world: live vicariously through Hoshimaru, his son. During Hoshimaru's time at the academy, his father would continue to train him after school. He saw Hoshimaru was not yet able to comprehend the Light element yet, but he was able to use Lightning element easier. Kazuki taught Hoshimaru the basics of Lightning element as well as a few techniques that Hoshimaru has become accustomed to using over time. In addition, he placed a cursed seal, the Thunderbolt Seal, on Hoshimaru's arm. Hoshimaru's mother died when Hoshimaru was still very young, so he grew up without a maternal figure. This prevented Hoshimaru from learning about any motherly or caring traits because he was under constant pressure from his father.

Personality: Hoshimaru is extremely energetic and will get worked up over anything. When he gets serious he is calm and focused. He isn't easily offended and gets in trouble occasionally for a dirty mouth. He has a lot of respect for his superiors but gets too worked up over it and usually comes on looking disrespectful. He is completely oblivious and occasionally chases girls. He loves Benihana and has learned how to cook. He likes to exercise and go to sleep.

Personality: Hoshimaru is generally outgoing and energetic. He will get worked up over anything and everything. After the chuunin exams, however, Hoshimaru has calmed down a bit. He isn't easily offended but easily offends others usually with dirty language or unnecessary innuendos. He chases girls a lot but usually ends up offending them. Even though he usually offends others, he has a deep respect for his superiors. However, Hoshimaru changes completely in extremely stressful battle or non-battle situations when the stakes are at their highest; he'll be very calm and collected, serious, and decisive.

History:

The Early Years
Hoshimaru was born as heir to the great Kazuki Yajin, whose mastery of lightning element and his bloodline had brought him fame and respect. He lead a fairly normal early childhood. Kazuki was on missions in the night time but was often home during the day and was rarely on missions for more than one or two days at a time. Hoshimaru's mother had retired from ninja work and had decided to care for her child.

Tragedy had struck when he was about four years old and an assassin from another hidden village had come to kill Kazuki. Kazuki had still not arrived home from a mission, so he had decided to start his task with killing Hoshimaru and his mother. Hoshimaru's mother had set him down so she could fight and protect the two of them, but to no avail; the enemy ninja was too much for Hoshimaru's mother and she fell in battle. Kazuki had gotten home at this point and had seen the battle. Outraged, he attacked and killed the enemy ninja utilizing his powerful bloodline ability: The Light Element. This bloody battle was too much for Hoshimaru to handle mentally. The fight had scarred him for life and he grew to fear his father's power and his family's bloodline ability. He still fears the light element to this day.

The Academy
Hoshimaru's mentors took immediate notice to his rather large amount of chakra reserves. His grades were about average and his skills in battle were no better than anyone else's, but he was able to repeatedly use the simple E-rank ninjutsu over and over again without tiring as much as any other student. His chakra control was no better than anyone else's, but he had so much chakra that he was able to use more techniques.

Kazuki, who had at that point retired from missions in order to look after Hoshimaru, especially took notice to his son's large amount of chakra and decided to teach him some lessons outside of class. Kazuki began by teaching Hoshimaru some of his D-rank ninjutsu such as the Chakra Strings and Chakra Remnants. As Hoshimaru got older, Kazuki began teaching him higher level techniques such as C-rank techniques such as Twin Thunder Bolts and even B-rank techniques such as Raiton: Thunderball.

Eventually, the time came for the Academy's final exam. When Hoshimaru passed, Kazuki decided to give Hoshimaru two graduation presents. The first was a katana that used to belong to one of Kazuki's teammates many years ago. He then taught Hoshimaru a few techniques to use with the katana.

The second part of the gift was a weakened version of the Thunderbolt Seal, a cursed seal-type defense mechanism that Kazuki had developed. Upon receiving the seal, Hoshimaru went through a mentally painful transformation into an agitated state that had raised his power to match that of a high-leveled chuunin. In this state, Hoshimaru had lost his self control and began coming at Kazuki with the urge to kill, so he needed to be subdued. Luckily, Kazuki was still much more powerful that his son and was easily able to reverse the seal. Hoshimaru at that point had also learned to fear the power of the Thunderbolt Seal.

Genin Team
Hoshimaru was placed in a genin team immediately for training. His sensei was Ippin Shtaka and his teammates were Sendo Ketsueki and Rtusubo Tiyami. The team had conducted one team training session in which Hoshimaru and his teammates had to steal a diamond from Ippin in order to pass and begin going on missions. The team failed to grab the diamond, but Ippin had passed them for their hard work. Ippin gave Hoshimaru a gift: a scroll with several known Lightning techniques for Hoshimaru to practice. He had learned a few on his own and trained alone for a few days while waiting for a mission.

Unfortunately, the team was dissolved due to circumstances relating to each member of the team, so Hoshimaru was left without a team again. He then turned to his father to train him some more, but Kazuki had business to deal with in the Hidden Mist, so Hoshimaru was left, once again, without anyone to train with. All he could do was meditate and practice his ninjutsu or kenjutsu on his own.

Chuunin Exams
Whem it was time for the Chuunin Exams, Hoshimaru was put in a team with Vash of the Wolf Clan and Kuro Oni. The three of them got along fairly well; not too well, but they got along, nonetheless. It wasn't much of a problem as they had not had much contact with each other since the start of the exams. Vash had finished his written exam first and Hoshimaru and Kuro finished theirs with the bulk of the ninja. In during the single matches, none of them were pitted against each other for combat during the first round, and the proctors had cut it down to only one round, so there was no way to fight each other.

Hoshimaru's battle during the single matches was the most important part of his life thus far. He was pitted against an opponent who clearly had an advantage over him. Hoshimaru's opponent was a long-range weapons user; something Hoshimaru could not combat because he had never had experience with long-range fighters before; most of his battles were close combat. Additionally, his opponent's evasive skills were too much for Hoshimaru until he had finally found a way to land a hit. Unfortunately, Hoshimaru's opponent then went all-out against him and Hoshimaru was nearly killed.

This battle was the first time Hoshimaru had activated the Thunderbolt Seal willingly. He used his power boost in order to turn the match around in his favor. The examiners were obligated to stop the match after a few more minutes of fighting after seeing that both Hoshimaru and his opponent were fatiguing themselves so much that they would both die in the arena. Hoshimaru had fought with enough strength, skill, and intelligence to be promoted to chuunin.

After the exams concluded, he went back to training by himself for a while until he could be put in a chuunin team.
