Before chapter 363 when the face of Pain has actually been fully shown, there was a theory highly popular in fandom that stated the Akatsuki Leader is the Fourth Hokage. This speculation has been recently resolved as incorrect, however even in the light, Pain's Yahiko body resembles Minato Namikaze in ways. Some fans still believe Pain is the Fourth Hokage in disguise as not to have people know who he is since Pain has multiple bodies, but this fact has yet to be proven or disproved. Another speculation is that the multiple bodies of Pain are a variant of his Shapeshifting Technique, used to split his chakra and abilities into multiple bodies.

It can also be inferred that Pain has a seventh body, because in the message Jiraiya left, it mentions that "the real one is not with them"(Shizune and Inoichi Yamanaka also think this in the latest chapters) . This could mean that the head body, which could be Nagato, controls his six bodies from a distance, and as long as the seventh one survives, Pain can't die. This theory is gaining gradual support, especially in the recent chapter 428.

It could be possible that the reason the the Deva path is held in such high regard by Pain is because it is the former body of Yahiko, who Nagato wanted to protect.

It has also been speculated in the past that Pain could be the Sage of the Six Paths. However, this theory died out long ago.

While the supposedly "Leader" body of Pain is Yahiko, Konan is seen calling him Nagato when she worries that the technique he used to pulverise Konohagakure will shorten his lifespan - perhaps indicating that Pain can be killed or can die. Her comment also seems to confirm that there is a seventh body.

Also, Nagato probably became traumatised by Yahiko's death and became Pain with Yahiko's body as his main one. That is probably the 'pain' that he had felt.

Alright, the speculation that the Fourth Hokage could have been the Akatsuki leader is false. Not only does the speculation not hold any valid points, that theory doesn't even hold up after the Tobi/Obito theory. As all theories based in Naruto, the only ones that actually end up being proved aren't based on a characters looks. Just because a character seems similar to another, doesn't mean that they have a possible relation.

I thought personally that Danzo was Uchiha Madara's little brother based off looks. Here are my reasons.

He has a bandage over one eye, and at the time we had only seen Madara's one eye, in Jiraiya's Chapter 370, titled "A Premonition."

Since you have to kinda fight to the death to gain the EMS, I figured that Madara had seriously messed up Danzo, and that's why he wears the towel over his arm and walks on a cane.

This also tied into the fact that if Danzo was Uchiha, he'd be a rebel, and that would only further my conclusion that Danzo tried to join with Senju to form Konoha, and Madara beat him up and took his eye.

It seemed good, but the theory based solely off looks was instantly proved wrong when I learned that Madara had a little brother, Uchiha Izuna, who willingly gave his eye up for his brother.

Pain doesn't have a seventh body. Simply because Pain is a group of six indiviuals. Nagato is the one controlling them. Ino was able to relate her jutsu to the one Nagato is presumed using. That means that someone is controlling them, and since someone is controlling them that basically rules out that Nagato isn't in Pain. He is their leader, and the group was created by him.

The theory that Pain can't die is not possible. Here's the reason....

Every single Pain is already dead. Yahiko died, and even Nagato (talking through one of the realms), during Jiraiya vs Pain confirmed that. Also, Konan backs up my theory because everytime she talks to "Yahiko" she always says Nagato. There has never been time that she's said "Yahiko" to him. Besides when Yahiko was actually alive. Pain (as in the group) also confirms the theory because of the chakra rods that animate the bodies are giving the bodes life. Shizune and her team proves this.

Shinra Tensei has been directed to Nagato, and solely him. So that means the technique must cut his life span. But the key to that is this, can Nagato use the regeneration techniques on himself? Can he revive himself just like Asura Realm did? I think Nagato's used Shinra Tensei like that before, and I think that he will be fine. But not for now since Naruto has possibly found a way for infinite chakra using Kage Bunshins. "-_-
