History: In many years past, Kaeru's father, a powerful and respected shinobi, had become good friends with the Takikage. He was a good friend to her father and mother, and eventually to her as well, considering her the niece that he would not otherwise have. But when she was too small to remember, Kaeru's mother passed away, and her father disappeared soon after.
Lost and alone, Kaeru was taken into the Takigakure orphanage where she lived for many years. The Takikage heard of what happened to his beloved niece and immediately arranged for her to be enrolled into the Academy (so she could protect herself) and sent money for living arrangements so she would no longer be subject to the orphanage.
Kaeru was grateful, but did not reciprocate with dedicated work. She was a slacker through the Academy, spending more time making friends and flirting with boys than studying the shinobi arts. Four times she took the Genin exam, failing miserably as she never took the time to study her ninjutsu.
It wasn’t untill she discovered her ability to manipulate humidity that she passed her Genin exams the very next round. But unfortunately her career took another stop. The village, short on qualified sensei staff, placed her on a waiting list. Lacking direction and motivation, Kaeru soon fell into her old ways of socializing and flirting.
Her flirting one day brought her to a ramen shop, where she met a blind shinobi; Zatoichi Sadao. The boy was very introverted and shelled, and Kaeru saw him as a challenge to crack. She led him about the village, trying to get him to open up, finally succeeded when the two shared a kiss in the lake of the memorial park. The two made plans to meet again.
Though she was giddy at the prospect of meeting him again, it would be the last time she would see him. Annoyed that she was so easily ignored, Kaeru began to spend her days tracking the blind shinobi, watching him train and push himself to his limits, battling in tournaments, passing his Chuunin exams. He was quite inspiration for Kaeru, and when the village finally had a sensei for her, she went with giddy anticipation.
Her training went well, but short. While getting a routine physical, she found out more information about her long-lost father: that in fact he was a demon hunter and that his last known whereabouts related to a hunt he was going on. For the first time in years, the girl was filled with hope of reuniting with her father, and threw herself into learning about demon-hunters.
Her research led to a Ame shinobi named Kurado Akido, a man who was also a demon hunter. Kaeru knew that in order to find her father, she would have to learn Kurado's ways. Her training with Kurado was useful and her skill blossomed to the point where she was granted a Chuunin exam. Though she won the first round and passed the second, she wiped out in the third when the scrolls she retrieved from the waterfall said "FAILURE" on them. Luck of the draw had turned against her.
Depressed and saddened, Kaeru left Taki for a few months, wandering through the world as she tried to think of how she could get stronger.
For the next year Kaeru would live as a wanderer, meeting interesting new people, sharpening her skills, and seeing firsthand what it took to survive alone in the shinobi world. She grew into a beautiful woman during that year, and her life experiences focused her goal and drive. After much contemplation, she returned to Takigakure.
In Takigakure she would be assigned to Team Ochiba under the leadership of Ryuu Yagami. Along with her teammates Jiro Samna and Tensai Azukiiro, Kaeru's strength as a shinobi would be tested as well as her resolve. "The Chain" that Ryuu scolded them for during their first mission, would be tempered and stretched to its full capacity, reaching a near-breaking point during their Chuunin examination: which due to their unique abilities and Tensai's blazing leadership they passed and were promoted. During that time Kaeru began to see Tensai's growing affection for her as more than a teammate, placing a strain on the deep friendship between Tensai and Jiro.
But the joy of victory was cut short. Kaeru awoke to find Tensai at her window, broken and saddened. Jiro had left the village. She tried her best to comfort her friend and teammate but she would fail at consoling him. He would vanish without a word to spend three months away from the village, training.
Little did she know that three months would take a whole year...
Alone and confused, Kaeru resumed her training alone as best she could, learning to think on her feet, to react, to formulate strategies and string ninjutsu. She grew three inches in the eight months she spent at the mountain, her body tightening with lean muscle mass, giving her a lean figure. She almost didn't recognize herself after a while.
Satisfied with her progress, Kaeru returned to Takigakure and began her duties as a Jounnin after gaining the title.
